Follow Your Dreams of Music – Exactly How To Do It

Everyone has dreams that they want to, and should, pursue. However, it is not always easy to know where to begin. Perhaps you are a writer who feels that you are good enough to become a published author, but you cannot seem to get your foot in the door of the right publishing company.

You may be someone who can sing or play a drum beat better than half the bands around, but you cannot find that big break. Maybe you have not even really tried to find it as of yet. Either way, you are letting yourself down by not attempting to follow your dreams. If music is what fills your heart with joy, you will not feel like a complete person until you at least give it a try. Here are a few tips to help you get on the right track. Who knows, you could end up becoming the one musician that everyone wants to listen to.

Why It Is So Hard to Get Into the Music Industry

The music industry is not like a normal job. You cannot go a record producer and fill out an application, plead your case, and walk away with your dream job. If it were that simple, everyone would give it a try and we would probably end up with a lot of very untalented people on our radio. The truth is, if you want to become a part of the music industry, you must start at the bottom, make connections, get heard, and work your way up to something that goes beyond your wildest dreams. It will take dedication and for you to never be willing to sacrifice your dreams.

Your First Goal

The first thing you need to do is realize that no one is looking for you yet. Recording companies, band managers, possible fans, and anyone else concerned in your potential success are not looking for you. These people have music shoved at them from everywhere they turn. It is not as simple as it used to be. Years ago, people were searching for talent to make a recording of. They would visit open mike areas and sign the people who appealed to them. Now, talent can be found everywhere. You are not the only one that will approach them. You just have to become the right one for them to consider.

Make Connections

You need to first create connections and create the music you want for people to hear. I say these two first because you can start making connections before you have a recording of your music or have your music already set. You can make use of social media, interacting with people who have already got their foot in the door, talk to record producers, bands, and anyone within the music business. Ask questions about how to get started, but take it further and build a relationship with them. You do not want to force them to listen to your music. If they are interested, they will ask you. Instead, just become a name that they can recognize. If you live in a larger city, you can also venture into the street and become a face that people recognize by hanging around where important people are.

Set Your Music Free

The internet opens doors that were at one time, not an option. Instead of playing in a bar for a select few, you now have the option to release your music to the world. You can do this by submitting your music to websites that allow people to download music and by releasing your music to be used in YouTube videos. Both of these things will require you to get a Creative Commons license for the music that you want people to hear. It means that they have to give you credit for it if they choose to use your songs. This will get your name further exposed, your music out there, and even though you are basically giving your music away, you will gain people who want to hear more of your music.

Interact with Fans

Through releasing your music and getting out into the world, you will most likely have people trying to find you as fans. This is great and it will help you. However, if you want them to continue to be supportive of you, you must interact with them. Message them through social media networking, send them emails, create a webpage and a blog where they can learn about you and potentially purchase your music. If you gain enough of a following, there is a good chance that the record producer that you have longed to find, will come looking for you and offer you the chance to follow your dreams of music.
